Functional Medicine is a model of health care, which views the body as an interconnected whole within a larger environment. A truly holistic approach to healing, we recognize that in order to treat one part of the body, all other parts must be considered as environmental influences. Underlying phenomena such as inflammation, oxidative stress, toxicities, chronic infections, and cellular energy problems are considered in order to understand the root cause of ill health.
Although medications or supplements may be needed, lifestyle factors are at the cornerstone of healing within the functional medicine model rather than pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. The patient is actively engaged in their treatment while being guided by the functional medicine provider.
